Thailand acceded to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026; it enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027, so Apostilles are not yet issued. Thai documents are legalised at the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and then at the destination country mission where that country requires it.
Clients in Nong Khai can walk in at Nong Khai Branch.
Nong Khai sits at the First Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge, which connects to Vientiane. Many documents handled here therefore involve Laos directly: Thai–Lao marriage papers, powers of attorney and cross-border employment documents. Lao consular work in Thailand is handled by the embassy in Bangkok and the Consulate-General in Khon Kaen, so check early which of the two your file must go to.
We keep a staffed office in Nong Khai. Clients from Bueng Kan, and people living on the Vientiane side who need documents for use in Thailand, often meet us here because it is the easiest point to reach. Lao-language documents need a qualified translation before Thai authorities will accept them, so bring the originals and we will tell you whether a certified translation is enough or consular legalisation is also required.
Timing is the other local issue. Border traffic at the bridge peaks around weekends and Lao and Thai public holidays, which can turn a short crossing into a long wait. If you are bringing originals from Vientiane for a fixed appointment on the Thai side, cross a day early. We can receive the documents and start checking them, so the appointment itself is used for signing rather than for discovering that a page or stamp is missing. Lao civil documents often carry handwritten entries, so a clear, complete copy also helps the translator read every name and date correctly.

The destination country is not a party to the Apostille Convention
If the destination is not a party, the document needs consular legalization plus destination-embassy certification instead, so an apostille will not serve. Check the destination’s status before filing.
Filing a copy the issuing office has not certified
The officer must verify the issuing authority’s signature and seal; a self-made photocopy provides nothing verifiable. Obtain a certified true copy from the issuing office first.
The translation omits parts of the document
Seals, signatures and end-notes form part of the original. A translation that drops them is treated as not matching the original and must be corrected before re-filing.
Incomplete authority for the person filing
When not filing in person, a power of attorney with a copy of the grantor’s ID is required, and its scope must cover the specific filing.

In most cases no. Filings with central authorities such as the Department of Consular Affairs or an embassy can be handled on your behalf. Steps that legally require you in person — fingerprinting, or signing in front of the certifying attorney — cannot be delegated.
Turnaround depends on the responsible authority’s queue and rules at the time, so we publish no fixed figure. We tell you the authority’s own published window on the day you ask, plus the steps that usually cause delay.
Our team can review documents and coordinate translation, signature certification, legalisation and embassy steps within the agreed scope. Some steps may still require the document owner to appear or sign in person under the receiving authority’s rules.
We do not publish fixed prices: official fees, page counts and language pairs differ in every case. Send the document details and destination and we will scope the work and cost for your specific case.
Documents can travel by trackable EMS or private courier. Confirm the recipient, address and original-document handling before dispatch; the coordinating destination is Nong Khai Branch.
Send the document details and the destination that will receive it. We map the correct chain before starting, flag what usually gets rejected, and run it end to end — as advisers, not just a filing agent.
