There are two main routes for Thai education documents. First, request English-language documents or letters directly from the institution; many universities can send them straight to the recipient. Second, make certified copies or certified translations, authenticate them at the Department of Consular Affairs, and have the destination embassy legalise them if required. Some credential evaluators only accept documents sent directly by the institution, so read the recipient's rules first.

Start with the institution
Most Thai universities issue transcripts and graduation letters in English. Institution-issued English documents need no translation and are often what recipients prefer.
Evaluators such as WES, and bodies in Australia and Europe, often require sealed envelopes or electronic delivery directly from the institution. In that case attorney certification cannot replace it.
When certified copies are accepted
A Notarial Services Attorney certifies that a copy matches the original shown, not that the degree was genuinely issued. Some recipients therefore want Consular Affairs authentication as well.
Thai-language documents, such as secondary school records, must be translated into the recipient's language and the translation certified in the order required.
Common sequence
1. Get documents from the institution
English versions where available, or Thai originals.
2. Translate if needed
All pages, including stamps.
3. Certify copies or translation
The attorney certifies the copy or the translator's signature.
4. Consular Affairs and embassy
File as the destination requires.
Credential verification
Some employers and authorities verify directly with the institution or through background screening providers. Institution and programme names should match what the institution uses. Programme accreditation records in Thailand sit with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation.
Apostille
From 28 February 2027, when the Convention enters into force for Thailand, education documents that are public documents may carry an apostille for member states. Before then, use Consular Affairs and embassy legalisation.
