Police clearance certificates are issued by the Police Clearance Service Center of the Special Branch Bureau, Royal Thai Police. If the recipient requires authentication, legalise the original and any translation at the Department of Consular Affairs, then at the destination embassy. From 28 February 2027, Apostille members that do not object to Thailand will accept an apostille instead of the embassy step. Many recipients set a maximum certificate age, so plan around your filing deadline.

Who issues it
The Royal Thai Police directs police clearance requests to the Police Clearance Service Center of the Special Branch Bureau; the Criminal Records Division handles fingerprint record checks. The Center publishes document lists by nationality and purpose, such as passport, ID card, house registration and proof of a visa application or embassy letter. Check the list and fees on its website on the day you apply.
Applicants abroad may need fingerprints taken at an embassy or local police station, following the Center's conditions.
Steps after you receive it
1. Check the recipient's rules
Whether legalisation is needed, which language, and the maximum certificate age.
2. Translate
If required, by a translator the recipient accepts.
3. Department of Consular Affairs
Legalisation, THB 200 per legalisation stamp or THB 400 per legalisation stamp (same-day).
4. Destination embassy or apostille
Embassy legalisation before 28 Feb 2027; apostille afterwards for members not objecting to Thailand.
Certificate age
There is no single expiry that applies everywhere, but recipients such as visa authorities or employers often require a certificate issued within a set number of months. Ask before applying so it does not lapse during legalisation.
Commonly needed for
- Permanent and work visas, e.g. Australia, Canada, New Zealand
- Work permits in China and the Gulf
- Marriage registration or naturalisation abroad
