Documents required: Thai passport, Thai ID, household registration, Certificate of Marital Status (issued by a Thai District Office), divorce/death certificate of prior spouse if any. The foreign partner must provide a Certificate of No Impediment/Affidavit from their home authorities. Two witnesses required (often provided by the embassy).

When a Thai national marries abroad — a Clark County chapel wedding in Nevada, a København City Hall ceremony, a New South Wales celebrant registration in Sydney, or a court marriage at Dubai Courts — the resulting foreign certificate carries no automatic force inside Thailand. Recognition requires a dual-legalization chain: (1) authentication in the country of issue, either an Apostille under the HCCH 1961 Convention for the 126 member states, or a full embassy legalization chain (notary → county clerk → Secretary of State → US Department of State → Thai embassy) for non-Hague jurisdictions; (2) certified Thai translation by an MFA-listed translator in Bangkok; (3) a second legalization by the Royal Thai Embassy abroad, or the MFA Department of Consular Affairs on Chaeng Wattana Road after the couple returns to Thailand.

Once the fully-legalized dossier reaches Thailand, the Thai spouse presents it at their home Amphoe for Tor Ror 14/1 entry; foreign spouse then applies for the 90-day Non-Immigrant O single-entry visa (or in-country conversion under Police Order 327/2557 section 2.18), followed by the 1-year extension.
Choice-of-Law, Community Property, and Cross-Border Estate Planning for Foreign Weddings
Foreign-solemnized marriages create a private-international-law layer that domestic Amphoe weddings do not.
