Notary Public fees in Thailand are not fixed by the government. This guide explains what drives the differences between quotations and how to compare them correctly.

Thailand does not have a government-fixed fee schedule for notarial acts. The Lawyers Council of Thailand licenses Notarial Services Attorneys and regulates their professional conduct, but the fee for each act — a signature attestation, a certified true copy, an affidavit, a power of attorney — is agreed between the attorney and the client. This is why quoted fees for the same document can differ meaningfully between firms, between provinces, and between a walk-in request and a pre-booked appointment.
Several factors explain most of the variation. Document type matters first: a straightforward signature witnessing is quicker than a power of attorney that the attorney must draft and explain. Language matters second: when the document is in a language the attorney does not read, a certified translation or an interpreter is normally required before the attorney may attest anything. Location matters third: practitioners in central Bangkok and in tourist provinces face different overheads and different client mixes than practitioners in provincial capitals. Finally, downstream use changes the total cost of a file even when the notarial fee itself is unchanged — a document bound for a non-Apostille country still needs Department of Consular Affairs legalisation and embassy legalisation after the notarial act, each with its own official fees and timeline.
When comparing quotations, we recommend asking four questions before price: Is the person performing the act a Notarial Services Attorney registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand? Does the quotation include the certificate text and any required translation? Does it include the MFA and embassy steps, or only the notarial act? And what is the realistic timeline from signing to a document that the destination authority will accept? A lower headline fee that excludes translation or legalisation is frequently the more expensive route once the file is complete.
