Using a Thai marriage record abroad: Kor Ror 2, Kor Ror 3 and legalisation
Thai–foreign couples often need to record the marriage in the spouse's country or apply for a spouse visa. We choose the right record, translate it and legalise it in the order the destination requires.

Quick Answer: Marriage Certificate Apostille
Two Thai records are usually requested: the marriage certificate (Kor Ror 3) and the marriage register extract (Kor Ror 2). Before 28 Feb 2027 they are translated and legalised at the MFA and embassy; afterwards Convention parties accept an Apostille.
Required Documents
- Original marriage certificate (Kor Ror 3)
- District-certified marriage register extract (Kor Ror 2) if requested
- Passport copies of both spouses
- Power of attorney if we file for you
Kor Ror 3 vs Kor Ror 2
Kor Ror 3 is the certificate handed to the couple; Kor Ror 2 is the district register page with more detail, including annotations. Some countries ask for both to confirm nothing has been amended.
Recording the marriage abroad
Many countries record a Thai marriage through their Bangkok embassy or home registry; translation and legalisation rules differ, so we check that country's list first.
Route before 28 Feb 2027
Translation → MFA → destination embassy. District-issued records do not need notarisation.
From 28 Feb 2027
Parties that did not object to Thailand will accept an Apostille in place of the embassy step.
