What is a Birth Certificate? Why Translate?
A Birth Certificate is an official government document issued by the district registration office under the Ministry of Interior. It serves as proof of birth, containing vital information such as full name, date of birth, place of birth, parents' names, nationality, and national ID number. Translation is necessary when the document needs to be used abroad — for visa applications, marriage registration, education, citizenship applications, or legal transactions with foreign entities. Translated documents must be certified by a registered translator and Notary Public attorney to be legally valid.
Types of Birth Certificates We Translate
Thai Notary Law translates all types of birth certificates including: 1) Thai Birth Certificate (Tor.Ror.1/1) from central registration, 2) Thai-English Birth Certificate (Tor.Ror.1 E.), 3) Foreign birth certificates in all languages, 4) Replacement birth certificates, 5) Old-format birth certificates (pre-1996), 6) Hospital birth notifications. All translated by specialized translators with attorneys registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand in official document translation.
Levels of Birth Certificate Translation Certification
Birth certificate translation certification has 4 levels: Level 1: Certified by registered translator — for domestic use in Thai government agencies. Level 2: Certified by Notary Public attorney — for embassy submissions, visa applications, marriage registration. Level 3: Certified by Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs — required for international use. Level 4: Certified by destination country embassy — required by some countries. Thai Notary Law provides all 4 levels, handling the entire process from translation to final certification.

Thai Notary Law handles all steps — no need to visit offices yourself, saving time and reducing complexity.
Birth Certificate Translation for Studying Abroad
Students planning to study abroad often need translated birth certificates as part of their application documents: student visa applications, foreign university enrollment, scholarship applications, guardian arrangements. Thai Notary Law provides complete study abroad document packages with initial case assessment on required documents.

Destination-country guides for translation and legalisation (80 countries)
Each guide sets out the receiving authority at the destination, the translation standard it accepts, country-specific cautions and FAQs — on the basis that Thailand acceded to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026 and it enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027, so no Thai Apostille is issued yet.

Foreign-issued documents for use in Thailand (48 origin countries)
The inbound direction: a document issued abroad is authenticated in its country of origin, legalised at the Royal Thai Embassy there (or through the issuing country’s mission in Thailand), then translated into Thai with the translation certified by the Department of Consular Affairs. Because Thailand acceded to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026 and it enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027, so no Thai Apostille is issued yet, an Apostille alone is not sufficient.

English
The document categories covered here fall into four families defined by the certification stack the receiving authority requires. Family one is civil-registry documents from the Department of Provincial Administration (birth, marriage and divorce records, house registration, name-change, single-status); these need a freshly certified copy signed by the issuing Thai registrar, dated within the receiving authority's tolerance (typically three to six months). Family two is education credentials (degree, transcript, completion certificate, Office of the Civil Service Commission credential recognition); these must be authenticated by the Ministry of Education or the Office of the Civil Service Commission before translation if the document will continue into Apostille or consular legalisation. Family three is legal documents (contracts, powers of attorney, court orders, DBD company certificates, articles of association); these go to a translator with a legal background whose terminology aligns with the destination's legal system (Common Law vs Civil Law). Family four is medical documents (medical certificates, treatment records, test results); some require Ministry of Public Health authentication, and all go to a translator with medical-terminology training to avoid errors that could affect treatment or insurance claims. Every document is two-eye reviewed (translator plus senior reviewer) before delivery, and we replace free of charge any document rejected by the receiving authority for translator or notary error.
